EMPLOYMENT PASS
Used to hire foreign professionals, managers and specialists
Employers do not have to pay the Foreign Worker Levy or the Skills Development Levy.
Employers can apply for any number of Employment Passes.
S PASS
Used to hire foreign personnel to fill middle-level positions.
Applicants are assessed on a point system based on salary, education, years of experience and type of job.
Employers must pay a levy of S$50 per month per S Pass holder and must pay a Skills Development Levy for S Pass holders whose gross salary is not more than S$2000 per month.
In general up to 10% of a business’ work force can be on an S Pass.
WORK PERMIT
Used to hire semi-skilled and unskilled workers.
Depending on the industry, there are limits to the number of foreign workers a company can hire.
The employer must pay a monthly Foreign Worker Levy, a security deposit for each worker, a Skills Development Levy for those workers earning less than S$2000 per month as well as other fees.
Employers who hire Work Pass holders are responsible for their stay, maintenance and repatriation and must buy Workman’s Compensation for each holder.
